Critical Blood Shortage, Give at the Red Cross!

Murfreesboro, TN – The rush of the holidays coupled with so many families being out-of-town has created a critical shortage of blood. Add to that the increased demand brought-on by motor-vehicle crashes and end-of-the-year surgeries, the Red Cross has issued an EMERGENCY ALERT.

Heart of Tennessee Chapter Executive Director John Mitchell told WGNS…

Mitchell stressed that all blood-types are needed, but especially type 0.

Yes, type O blood is often in critical need because it's used in emergencies and when a patient's blood type is unknown: Type O negative is the universal blood type because it can be given to anyone, regardless of their blood type. It's often used in emergencies when there isn't time to determine a patient's blood type. Only 7 per cent of the population has type O negative blood, but the demand for it is high.

For those who give blood now through January 3, 2025, you will receive a $20 e-gift card to the merchant of your choice. PLUS, get an exclusive Red Cross long-sleeved T-shirt, while supplies last.

The Murfreesboro Red Cross, 501 Memorial Blvd., has blood drives set-up now. Phone 800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767) and make an appointment to give the “gift of life” at a time that fits your schedule.
