Murfreesboro, TN - The esteemed Katherine Haynes Walkup Collection has officially been relocated to the Historical Research Center (HRC) within the Rutherford County Archives, where it will continue to serve the community as a vital historical resource. Previously housed at the Smyrna Public Library, this comprehensive collection includes an array of Smyrna history files, genealogy records, family histories, and historical photographs.
The collection was generously donated by the Walkup family in 2013 in honor of their late mother, Katherine Walkup. A prominent figure in Smyrna and Rutherford County’s cultural and literary circles, Mrs. Walkup’s legacy is marked by her dedication to preserving history and enriching the community. Her notable contributions include serving on the Linebaugh Library Board, the Board of Directors for the Sam Davis Memorial Association, and the Rutherford County Nursing Home. She was also a founding member of the Rutherford County Historical Society.
Library staff and historians anticipate that the collection’s new home will enhance accessibility for daily visitors of the Historical Research Center and Rutherford County Archives. In a heartfelt acknowledgment, the Walkup family was thanked for their continued commitment to the community by facilitating the move.
