BEDFORD COUNTY, TN - Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) are continuing their probe into an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday evening in Bedford County. The investigation, initiated at the request of 17th Judicial District Attorney General Rob Carter, aims to determine the sequence of events that led to deputies opening fire on an armed individual.

According to preliminary findings, two Bedford County deputies were responding to a 911 call regarding a suicidal individual making threats. Upon arrival along the 2000 block of State Road 64 in Shelbyville, deputies encountered the man walking along the roadway. As they attempted to communicate with him, the man reportedly began yelling, then brandished a knife before producing what appeared to be a handgun. In response, the deputies fired their weapons, striking him.

The injured man was airlifted to a Nashville hospital, where he was last reported to be in stable condition. No officers were injured during the confrontation.

TBI agents are actively working to establish the facts surrounding the shooting, gathering evidence and conducting interviews. The agency serves strictly as a fact-finding entity and does not determine whether an officer’s actions were justified. That responsibility lies with the District Attorney General overseeing the case.

As per standard procedure, the TBI has not disclosed the identities of the officers involved, deferring those inquiries to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office. Further details regarding the incident will be released as the investigation progresses.
