Murfreesboro, TN - Concerns over pedestrian safety in Murfreesboro are growing after two serious accidents occurred within days of each other.
On Friday evening, March 28, a 43-year-old man was struck by a vehicle on the inbound lane of South Church Street near I-24. According to Murfreesboro Police, the man was wearing dark clothing and attempting to cross the roadway outside of a designated crosswalk when he was hit by a car exiting the off-ramp.
Initially listed in very critical condition, he was transported to Vanderbilt Trauma Center in Nashville.
He is now reported to be stable, alert, and talking.
Police shut down inbound South Church Street for several hours following the crash.
In a Wednesday morning WGNS' talk show focused on law enforcement issues, Public Information Officer Larry Flowers confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing.
Not Just Nighttime
Just two days later, on a sunny Sunday afternoon (3/30/2025), another pedestrian-involved collision occurred on John Bragg Highway, just miles from the earlier incident.
The quick succession of these crashes has raised concerns about the increasing number of pedestrian accidents in the area. Authorities continue to stress the importance of pedestrian safety and urge individuals to use designated crosswalks and remain visible to drivers. As investigations proceed, discussions about potential preventative measures to curb these incidents are expected to follow.
