Rutherford Co. Officer-Involved Shooting

A burglary suspect was shot after the driver of the truck he rode in struck three sheriff’s vehicles during a pursuit Friday. Suspect Billy Jo Ervin, 36, of 5001 Old Nashville Highway, was treated at Middle Tennessee Medical Center and transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Deputies were following up on a Murfreesboro burglary on Old Nashville Highway outside the city limits and tried to stop the truck driven by Ervin’s roommate Marjorie Myles, 27, but she refused. Deputies pursued her and Ervin, who was a passenger, from Old Nashville Highway onto Northwest Broad Street and Thompson Lane. Deputy Luis Parra-Flores fired two rounds at the truck, striking Ervin about 9:45 a.m. outside the First Tennessee Bank on Thompson Lane. Charges are pending against Ervin.

Sgt. Todd Hammond obtained warrants charging Myles with three counts of aggravated assault of Hailey, Moody and Parra-Flores, felony evading, felony reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and driving on a suspended license. Arnold asked the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to investigate the officer-involved shooting. Parra-Flores was placed on routine administrative leave with pay. The sheriff asked Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers to investigate the crash based on the sheriff office’s standard operating procedures. Myles was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. She was previously arrested in 2009 for violation of probation.
