We have a follow up on an accident that occurred this past Wednesday on Highway 231 South in Rutherford County, just outside the city limits of Murfreesboro. At around 3:00 on Wednesday afternoon David Martin from Shelbyville was traveling south on 231 when he ran into the median. His 2011 Nissan Altima then traveled back onto the highway where he overcorrected and ran off the opposite side of the road hitting an embankment and then a utility pole and eventually a tree.
Sgt. Bill Miller with the Tennessee Highway Patrol told WGNS on Thursday night that Martin had to be flown from the accident scene by Life Flight helicopter to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. The driver had serious injuries as a result of the wreck.
Crews from Middle Tennessee Electric were on the scene of the crash for over 5-hours after the wreck repairing and replacing the broken utility pole. As far as why the driver ran off the road to begin with, that has not been determined.
