A terrible crash on I-24 near Smyrna sent several people to the hospital, including four to this area's level one trauma center, Vanderbilt. It happened around 11:30 Tuesday morning at mile marker 71 when the T-H-P reports Mildred Payne's Toyota Camry hit the 2000 Mercedes of Scott Summerville. According to the report, an eyewitness told troopers he saw the Owensboro, Kentucky, woman, who was traveling westbound, go through the median and into the southbound lanes after overcorrecting. Just before the crash, Frank Hogan told the authorities the Camry hit his side mirror, which led to the overcorrection and subsequent crash. Summerville, of Nashville, and his passenger John Jackson, Junior, also of Nashville were taken by medical helicopter to Vanderbilt along with Payne and her passenger, Stephanie Payne.
