After years of soaking in tax dollars, the Gateway Island attraction still has problems holding water. 

This was one of the attractions that lured developers to property in this prime commercial area. The beautiful facility in the middle of Gateway Island is home to numerous weddings and events. The popular Stones River Greenway even circles the pond as an attraction for walkers.

Murfreesboro Medical Center has the largest single waterfront, and numerous other medical and office buildings face the water feature. Plus, several windows at nearby St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital have a clear view of pond.

But despite high-tech vinyl liners, extensive engineering work and other costly corrective investments--the Gateway Island still has one flaw: it won't adequately hold water. 

One office holder in this high-rent district chuckled with a suggestion, "Put monkeys on the new, small island that has emerged in the middle of the larger pond. Kids will love it, and it will make the area more unique." 

Wait--do primates and Canadian geese do well together? More research is needed, as the fowl have stayed in large numbers even with the falling water table.
