In Thursday night's (10/16/2014) Murfreesboro City Council Meeting, Mayor Shane McFarland proclaimed this "Christine Huddleston Day".

She and her late husband, Clyde, founded this city's Room In The Inn program about 25-years ago, and she has served as their executive director with no pay for all of those years.

She told WGNS, "It's a labor of love, and the people there are my family."

Room In The Inn is a homeless program that is located on West Main Street, across from the old Murfreesboro train station.

WGNS' Bart Walker talked with Christine in the City Council Chambers.

Christine was the Grand Marshal of the Murfreesboro Christmas Parade last year on Sunday, December 8, 2013.

Just five-days later, a motorist clipped the rear of Huddleston's car as she was pulling into the Room In The Inn. It was described as a minor accident, but sadly the crash resulted in a stroke, leaving her unable to walk. The energetic 81-year old community leader has been in a wheelchair since that fateful day.

Murfreesboro's Room In The Inn has had a positive impact on the local homeless population that has gone through that door over the past quarter of a century.

Christine noted that rarely an MTSU graduation passes that she is not invited to attend the awarding of a diploma to a former shelter dweller.

If you would like to send Christine a note of thanks and encouragement, the mailing address for Room In The Inn is 640 West Main Street; Murfreesboro, TN 37129.
