Williamson County will welcome approximately 1,500 senior athletes from across the state, June 19-25, 2015, for the 35th annual Tennessee Senior Olympics State Finals presented by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.
WHO: Senior athletes, ages 50 and older, from across Tennessee.
WHAT: The Tennessee Senior Olympics, an Olympic-style competition, includes the following events: swimming, track and field events, horseshoes, table tennis, bowling, badminton, tennis, basketball, archery, racquetball, cycling, volleyball, softball, shuffleboard, bowling, badminton, tennis, golf, pickleball,10K and 5K runs, a fitness walk and a one-mile power walk.
WHEN: June 19- 25, 2015
WHERE: Various facilities in Williamson County, including Battle Ground Academy, the Indoor Sports Complex, Franklin Recreation Center, Ravenwood High School and Franklin Entertainment Center.
WHY: To promote healthy lifestyles for seniors through fitness, sports, and an active involvement in life.
While Tennessee ranks near the bottom of many lists regarding health and fitness for all ages, these senior athletes shine as a role model to all.
Within these athletes, there is an abundance of human interest stories including:
- Cancer survivors (this event has kept them going)
- A 102 year old who faithfully comes each year
- An MS athlete who threw her cane away
- Former out of shape executives now as fit as ever
- Plus amazing athletic feats- this event is not what most expect
