The Rutherford County Historical Society held its regular monthly meeting in the County Archives Building at 7:00 o'clock Monday night, August 15th. State Archaeologist Dr. Sam Smith told of the history of Tennessee potteries, potters and their creations. Later Dr. E. C. Tolbert showed examples of area pots. 

Dr. Smith is a noted authority on the subject of pottery, and is in the process of publishing a book about early potters and their wares. This will be the first authoritative work published on early Tennessee pottery. It will cover from the 1790's to 1950.
