1,000 Participants In Fenton Payne & Fred 5K Run/Walk

Approximately a thousand participants were lined-up on the circle in front of MTSU's Kirksey Old Main building at 7:00 o'clock Saturday morning (8/20/2011) for the 8th Annual Fenton Payne and Fred 5K run and walk.  The race honors local doctors Fenton Payne Hardison and Fred Lovelace, Jr. while benefiting the Blue Raider Athletic Association and Primary Care and Hope Clinic. At the same time, a 1-mile kid's fun run helps Special Kids.

(L-R) A veteran received cheers along the route, paramedics patrolled the area, and MTSU's legendary Track and Field Coach Dean Hayes rode the end of the route to make certain runner were safe. 

This annual event is a certified route through the historic dristrict of Murfreesboro with chips giving the time for each runner. 

Once again, volunteers from the Murfreesboro Rotary Club controlled street traffic at the twenty road crossings along the East Main Street route. In addition, officers from the Murfreesboro Police Department were stationed along the course, while specially equipped bicycles allowed paramedics from the Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services to cruise alongside the runners.
