Federal Government May Cut TN Funding by Billions

Congress is planning to cut the budget which means cuts for Tennessee. If congress slashes the state budget by as much as they are talking about, by 15 or 30%, then government agencies in Tennessee will have to make cuts themselves. Those cuts could mean that 5,000 employees will have to say goodbye to their jobs. That is a massive cut in today’s poor economy.

The potential cuts mean that the TennCare program could lose $2.2 billion dollars. The court system could lose $120,000, the commission on Children and Youth stand to lose $1.5-million, the Alcoholic Beverage Commission could be cut by $55,000, the Tennessee Housing Development Agency could lose $61-million and the Department of Agriculture in Tennessee would lose $3.3-million. Those are just a few of the many departments that may see a cut in funding next year if the federal government moves forward in the cuts they are talking about.
