A tip lead the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department and Riverdale High School administration to discover a handgun and marijuana in a student's car. James Evans, spokesman for Rutherford County Schools, tells NewsRadio WGNS the student was expelled and removed from school immediately and will face multiple charges.

Evans adds parents of Riverdale students have been notified about the incident to help address any rumors before they begin. He says all students are safe and the school followed safety protocols that are in place for incidents such as this.
