Everyone is invited to cut a rug and jitterbug at the "Rockin' to the Oldies Sock Hop," a party fund raiser hosted by Mindful Care Adult Day Services, Saturday, April 23, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Barfield School of Dance, 2298 Barfield Road, in Murfreesboro.
Tickets will be sold at the door for $20, and all proceeds will fund the operations of the Mindful Care non-profit program serving families throughout Rutherford County. Revelers are encouraged to wear sock-hop attire and dance to the disks spun by a live deejay. The evening will feature a Jitterbug dance lesson/demonstration, a costume contest and a twist competition with prizes. Complimentary light refreshments and beverages will be served.
Mindful Care provides compassionate care as well as mental and physical activities Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., for persons age 55 and up with compromised memory issues. As a result of such a service, family caregivers are able to take a break, run errands or even continue employment. The program is located in space at New Vision Baptist Church.
"Having a service like Mindful Care is pure gold ... a gift beyond measure," commented Jamie Watters, Mindful Care program director. "It is a place of love and joy for a loved one with Alzheimer's and a great stress-reliever for the family caregiver."
A portion of the funds raised at the April 23rd event will be earmarked for Mindful Care's fee-assistance program for families who need financial help. More and more families will require the affordable services of programs like Mindful Care as the incidence of Alzheimer's is predicted to double and even triple over the next two to three decades. There are approximately 3,000 people in Rutherford County afflicted with Alzheimer's and more than 5 million nationwide.
Sponsorships are available at various giving levels for businesses and will include tickets and other amenities. For more information about the event and sponsorships, please call Mindful Care at 615-542-4371 or after hours, 931-952-2790. Visit mindful-care.org and on Facebook.
