All other matters paled in comparison to the public outcry over proposed redistricting at the September 15th meeting of the Rutherford County commission.  The proposal would cut the commission from 21 members down to 14, a savings of $75,000 to the county.  But citizens clearly were not pleased, with about a dozen speakers lashing out against the action, which has passed in committee, but has not yet come to a vote before the full commission.  Additionally, vacancies were announced on the Beer Board and Board of Zoning Appeals, all members of the Ethics Committee were reaffirmed, and one public hearing was held to rezone approximately 1.5 acres along Couchville Pike and issue a conditional use permit for an electrical contractor's office to be built on that site. The Property Management Committee passed a resolution to honor Dan Mitchell with a plaque at the Lane Agri Park Arena, and the Public Safety Committee granted approval to the Fire & Rescue Department to apply for the cash infusion of several new AFG grants.  Finally, Public Works & Planning approved drainage easements for the Deer Crossing, Stewart's Bend, and Long Creek subdivisions, and the Budget, Finance, & Investment Committee passed a resolution authorizing the Adult Detention Center to institute a fee on items issued to inmates at the time each new inmate is admitted.
