A convicted felon wanted for selling drugs in Albany, New York, was nabbed early Thursday (9/15/2011) in Murfreesboro by Rutherford County Sheriff’s detectives and the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force.
Around 6:00 o'clock Thursday morning, Sheriff’s Detective Chuck Thomas U.S. Marshal’s apprehended Ameek Morton at Chelsea Place Apartments on Bradyville Pike.
Thomas said, "The 26-year old fugitive was charged in a sealed indictment for two counts of a controlled substance. He was also wanted for two counts of assault, menacing, possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child."
The investigation showed Morton and his wife moved to Murfreesboro in June. His wife told the Rutherford County Sheriffs Office that she knew people who lived here. They were both unemployed.
The New York/New Jersey Regional U.S. Marshal’s Task Force received a lead that Morton lived in Murfreesboro. The Middle Tennessee Marshals’ office assigned the case to RCSO's Chuck Thomas about 9:15 Wednesday night. Thomas learned Morton lived at Chelsea Place. He and the marshal’s raided Morton’s apartment and took him into custody.
Thomas charged Morton with being a fugitive from justice. He is a convicted felon who was previously charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer. Ameek Morton is being held without bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. A hearing is set October 3rd in General Sessions Court.
