The big topic of the night at the September 22nd meeting of the Murfreesboro City Council was World Outreach Church, hoping to have 52 acres of land rezoned to multi-family. The church currently has a tax exemption status, but that could change in the future depending on what the church plans to do with the land. If the church were to build a domestic violence housing complex or low income housing, then the church could keep their tax exempt status, but if the land is used for an apartment complex that is not catered to a low income need, then the church could lose that status.  32 people attended a neighborhood meeting on the issue, and emails have poured into Planning Director Joseph Aydelott asking that the zoning application be denied.  The general consensus is that the public is not in favor of this.  Nonetheless, the rezoning has been approved upon first reading.  The remodeling of the city council chambers is mostly completed, and you can see pictures of new chambers below.  City Hall is now set to be retrofitted with new energy efficient lighting fixtures and air volume boxes.  In anticipation of a snowy winter, the Street & Sign Department ordered 2 new snow plows, and finally, a public hearing was scheduled to discuss how amusement rides fit into the zoning ordinance; that hearing has been scheduled for October 13th.
