Controversial Murfreesboro Mosque Breaks Ground

A proud day for the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, who broke ground on their new facility at the intersection of Bradyville Pike and Veals Road, Wednesday the 28th.  The ceremony was attended by several hundred spectators, members of the media, religious leaders, and others.  Police on the scene were not at liberty to say if any significant threats had been recieved prior to the event, but the opposition was largely absent from the proceedings.  Those who were present were both silent and distant; a group of three in the adjacant Grace Baptist Church parking lot, only yards away from the mosque site, outfitted a pickup truck with a massive screaming bald eagle decal and a full sized flagpole in the truck bed waving the stars and stripes.  Grace Baptist flew their flag at half mast, as did several surrounding neighbors, who watched from their lawns.  Attorney John Green, a frequent aid to the Islamic center called the day "really fabulous", and Dr. Ossama Mohamed Bahloul, Imam, or worship leader for the center, said that on this day he is proud to be an American Muslim.  Islamic leaders hope the center will begin a new chapter in rebuilding the city's somewhat tarnished image of hospitality.
