There will be a Republican Party primary in 2012. The county's party decided last weekend to not just caucus because of a December qualification deadline for candidates. In a press release from the Republican Party of Rutherford County, it was stated after a special called meeting to "reverse its previous decision to hold a Republican Party caucus in 2012 for Property Assessor and Road Superintendent. In an 11-1 vote, the Executive Committee voted to hold a primary on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, which will coincide on the same day as the Presidential Preference Primary.”
