The City of Murfreesboro will conduct a public meeting at Erma Siegel Elementary School, Tuesday, December 6, 2016, from 4:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m., to provide an opportunity for public comment on the proposed Cherry Lane Extension Project.
The project includes Phase 2--Sulphur Springs Road to the existing Cherry Lane, and Phase 3--Northwest Broad Street (US 41/70) to Sulphur Springs Road. Siegel Elementary School is located at 135 West Thompson Lane, Murfreesboro, Tenn., 37129.
The Public Meeting will be an "open house" type meeting with no formal presentation. Interested persons may arrive any time within the designated meeting period. The public will be given time to review the project plans, ask questions and provide comments regarding the proposed project. Representatives from the City of Murfreesboro and Wiser Consultants, LLC, the consultant for the project, will be available to answer any project-related questions.
The approximately 2.0 mile Cherry Lane Extension Phase 2 project will include a 100-foot Right of Way (R.O.W.) width, encompassing 5 to 12 foot lanes (including a center turn lane), 2-foot curb and gutter, 5-foot grass strips, a 5-foot sidewalk, and a 10-foot multi-use path. Project features included a sideroad connection at Lenna Road and Old Cherry Lane. The new roadway will extend and connect to the terminus of the existing Cherry Lane roadway.
The approximately 2.4 mile Cherry Lane Phase 3 project would create an alternative route to Thompson Lane, providing traffic congestion relief on Thompson Lane and additionally provide for anticipated future growth. A new interchange would also be constructed on the Cherry Lane extension roadway at SR 840. The roadway will include a 100-foot Right of way (R.O.W.) width, encompassing 5 to 12 foot lanes (including a center turn lane, 2-foot curb and gutter, 5-foot grass strips, a 5-foot sidewalk, and a 10-foot multi-use path.
The interchange will include a two-span grade separation bridge over the West Fork Stones River and flood plain for Cherry Lane over SR 840. It is also anticipated that a retaining wall will be necessary to protect existing residences from construction of the SR 840 westbound off ramp. Phase III runs from the end of the Phase II at Sulphur Springs Rd. to NW Broad St.
Comments and suggests received at the November 15 meeting will help further refine all aspects of project alignment and design. Comment sheets will be available to make written comments.

The Cherry Lane Extension is part of the City's 2025 Thoroughfare Plan. Phase I of the project was built near Siegel Park and completed in late 2005. The completion of all three phases will ultimately connect Memorial Boulevard to NW Broad St. and provide an additional access to SR 840.
