The Murfreesboro Planning Commission will examine a plan put forth by Amazon.com for a distribution center on Wednesday. The internet based company is looking at a site on the Joe B. Jackson Parkway where they would build a 1.3-million square foot facility on 87 acres. The capital investment of the project is $87.5-million dollars. The city of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County have worked with the state in approving of a tax abatement program in order to get the online retailer to ink a deal with the city. The tax break equals $15.8-million dollars over the next 20-years. If the company moves forward with their project, it could create up to 1200 new jobs. Reports indicate the company has yet to sign on the dotted line, but will make a decision in the near future.
