Shoplifting is a major problem across America and a big issue for stores in Murfreesboro.
Most recently, a man and a woman entered the Old Fort Parkway Walmart store and started filling a shopping cart with merchandise, according to an MPD report. By the time they were done, the cart was loaded down with over $1,400 in goods.
The report shows that after the cart was barely pushable, they headed out the front door of the store without even making an attempt to stop at a cash register first.
Walmart employees noticed what was occurring and quickly gave chase. However, by the time the workers got into the parking lot, one of the two had fled the scene in a Nissan Altima. The male reportedly left his female accomplice behind and standing alone in the parking lot... with the shopping cart loaded with stolen goods.
The female, identified as 25-year-old Kemerlee Jackson was likely not too happy. Regardless, her alleged significant other was caught at a nearby McDonalds. Therefore, Christopher Slate was apprehended (as documented by police).
Previous to being arrested, Slate told police he was in the area of Walmart because he was lost and looking for the "Bullseye Bar," according to officers. He also told police that he was not at Walmart. As for Ms. Jackson, she was arrested and charged accordingly.
UPDATE: A police officer noted in a report, "Both subjects were observed on the stores surveillance video pushing the shopping cart out of the store."
To make matters more confusing, the female subject was born in Russia. Staff at the local jail was advised about her foreign status, as stated in her arrest document.
Mr. Slate was not only charged for the theft at Walmart, he was also served three warrants. The warrants were for failing to appear in court (X2) for a Violation of Probation charge dealing with theft and for failing to appear in court for a possession of a weapon charge.
The $1,400 in Walmart merchandise was returned to the store by police.
