State Senators Jim Tracy (R-Shelbyville) and Bill Ketron (R-Murfreesboro) announced Thursday (10/20/2011) that during the fiscal year 2011-2012 Rutherford County will receive approximately $430.45 million in state appropriations. Also, RutherfordCounty will receive a portion of the federal funds included inTennessee's $30.8 billion budget as adopted by the 107th General Assembly.
Break Out Of Funds
Listed budget appropriations for Rutherford County in the following general categories are: $182.5 million for education (kindergarten through 12th grade); $81.8 million for economic development and higher education, $34,391 million in shared state tax collections; $105.8 million for health and social services; $14.35 million for justice and public safety; $4.6 million for recreation and resources development; and $3.3 million for state highway projects. In addition, Rutherford County will receive $3.625 million in capital outlay, which include three projects at Middle Tennessee State University.
More $ Coming Into State Coffers
“Overall, we have seen an increase of $3.2 million in total state dollars coming into our county over last year's budget and $58.89 million from the 2009-2010 budget,” said Senator Ketron, who serves on the Senate Finance Committee and is Chairman of the General Assembly’s Joint Fiscal Review Committee. “This is good considering the state reductions which have been made over the past year.”
The state budget was reduced $1.2 billion from the 2010-11 budget, which is a decrease of 3.8 percent.
Senator Tracy, who is chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, stated, " I think Rutherford County fared very well in this budget considering the limited resources available. Our transportation funds grew by almost one-third which is very beneficial to the citizens of Rutherford County. A good transportation system is part of the essential infrastructure needed to help us recruit new jobs to our area.”
