Construction on the new Nissan lithium-ion battery plant in Smyrna is continuing. Reports indicate the new Nissan LEAF will be produced at the new plant in late 2012. The new plant is next to the existing Nissan manufacturing facility in Smyrna and will be 1.3-million square feet in size. Once complete, the plant will be capable of producing 200,000 advanced technology batteries annually. The new addition will also mean the creation of 1,300 manufacturing jobs. Until the new plant is open, the LEAF will be built in Japan.
