Landfills continue to be a problem for Rutherford County Residents and a challenge that is going to be costly within the next 8 years. As previously reported, the landfill in Walter Hill has a short lifespan ahead of it. The landfill is currently free for our community trash services to use, but that will change when the life of the landfill comes to a close.
Murfreesboro Interim City Manager Jim Crumley stated...
In the next 5 to 9 years, Murfreesboro residents could see a tax increase or a trash service collection fee to pay a tipping fees elsewhere. Those fees could easily be over $2-million annually.
Currently, all solid waste services in Murfreesboro are supported by the property taxes.
