A fiery Saturday morning crash (1-28-2012) between a double-trailer UPS truck and a car closed the eastbound lane of I-24 near the Sam Ridley Parkway in Smyrna for several hours. Reports indicate that motorists were stopping to help and called 911 around 4:20AM.

WGNS learned that when the double trailer rig hit a car, it then slammed into the concrete median on the center of the interstate, and flipped on its side bursting into flames. One Good Samaritan is credited with pulling the truck driver from his buring big rig. Amazingly, only two persons had to be transported with non-life threatening injuries to the ER at StoneCrest Medical Center, which was in-view of the wreck.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports that the truck hit the concret median with such impact, that concrete from the lane divider as well as debris from the UPS truck flew into both the east and west lanes of I-24.  In fact a second motorist became involved when they slammed into some of that wreckage.
