When stations begin interrupting regularly scheduled programs for weather coverage, the situation is pretty serious. Take heed to their warnings, but also know that understanding weather is not reserved just for trained meteorologists. On Saturday, February 11th from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, a Severe Weather Workshop is planned at the LaVergne Senior Center.

“If you have an interest in weather, love watching storms - or are afraid of them - this workshop will be helpful,” said Richard Long, weather coordinator for Box 100. “Learning to understand the weather, read the radar, and interpreting warnings will be key educational points in this workshop.”

The workshop is sponsored by Box 100, which was active in gaining the Storm Ready Certification for LaVergne, the fourth community in Tennessee to obtain it. Box 100 volunteers monitor weather radar during potential and current severe weather conditions using state-of-the-art weather equipment and report conditions to necessary authorities.

There is no cost to attend the Severe Weather Workshop and refreshments and door prizes will be given away.
