A large forest fire was reported shortly before 3:00 o'clock Friday (11/30/2012) afternoon in the Indepent Hill and Pawpaw Springs Road area of Rutherford County. The 25-acre blaze was believed to have started when a trash burn spread quickly out of control near the Williamson County line.
The inferno became extremely dangerous as leaves and dry timber coupled with a wind swept it toward an underground petroleum line. It was also nearing homes before firefighters got it under control. As of 5:30 Friday night the danger of an explosion had passed as bulldozers came-in to create a berm around the blaze.
Volunteer Fire Departments from Almaville, Eagleville and Kittrell fought the flames for several hours. A spokesperson at the Rutherford County Sheriffs Office said that Donald Powell was cited for burning without a permit.
