Rep. Jim Cooper (TN-05) sent a letter to Committee Chair Sen. Roy Blunt and Ranking Member Sen. Amy Klobuchar Wednesday requesting answers to voter suppression tactics enforced by the Secretary of State Tre Hargett’s office.

Cooper sent the letter in advance of Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett’s scheduled appearance before the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration Wednesday at 10:30AM ET/9:30AM CT.

“In 1996, Tennessee was the 10th easiest state to vote. But years of poor leadership have taken their toll and now we are the third worst state,” Rep. Jim Cooper said. “From criminalizing the activities of voter registration groups to creating bureaucratic labyrinths for college students to overcome, Tennessee spares no expense when it comes to stopping people from voting.”
