(MURFREESBORO)  The physicians, nurses and medically related fiont-line heroes have been getting their COVID-19 vaccinations since last week, and on Monday (12/21/2020) the Rutherford County Health Department received its first shipment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

A total of 10 Rutherford County public safety workers from multiple disciplines and jurisdictions, who qualified as Phase 1a1 in the COVID-19 Vaccination Plan for Tennessee, received their first vaccine dose yesterday. Two individuals had their vaccines administered by Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) Commissioner Dr. Lisa Piercy.

Officials report that the initial supplies of the COVID-19 vaccines here in Rutherford County are limited. The first allocations of both the Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines will be used to provide first vaccine doses to qualifying individuals.

It’s important to note these Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are not interchangeable; each patient must receive two doses of the same vaccine to be protected against COVID-19. Those who choose to receive the vaccine will receive a card with the date of their first dose, the name/manufacturer of the vaccine received and the date on which they should receive their second dose.

Tennessee’s COVID-19 vaccination allocation plan to ensure that all geographic areas of the state, especially rural areas and those with high concentrations of people in vulnerable populations, would receive the coronavirus shots.

Much conversation has been given to the procedure in which the general public will receive their COVID vaccinations, noting that senior citizens and those living in nursing homes, would be toward the top of the list. However, details have not yet been released.

Free COVID Testing Continues

Tennessee’s local health departments continue to offer COVID-19 testing five days a week at no charge to those wishing to be tested. This is now being done with self-testing kits for adults three days a week. Find testing hours and contact information at https://covid19.tn.gov/testing-sites/.”
