He was one of less than 30 who were able to get off of a sinking ship during the D-Day Invasion

A panoramic view of the Omaha beachhead after it was secured, sometime around mid-June 1944, at low tide. The Coast Guard-manned LST-262 is the third beached LST from the right, one of 10 Coast Guard-manned LSTs that participated in the invasion of Normandy, France, in June, 1944.


Bill Allen was a medic on a US Navy Ship during the D-Day Invasion. He sat down with WGNS' Truman Jones to talk more about that day, recalling memories of how his ship sunk, but he survived.
