(MURFREESBORO)  County Mayor Bill Ketron announced that LaShan Dixon has been named the director of the Rutherford County Health Department.

She had been serving as interim director since the unexpected death of Director Dana Garrett last October. Garrett had been in that position for around 20-years.

Prior to being the interim director,  Dixon was the assistant director for the Rutherford County Health Department.

She is an MTSU graduate with a bachelor's degree and a master’s in Health and Human Performance.

In 2015, Dixon developed and implemented the first Community Baby Shower with the county health department in partnership with United Way. Through that program more than 2,100 families have training in child care and received baby supplies. 

LaShan's leadership skills were further recognized last September when she was presented the 2020 ATHENA Young Professional Award.

Rutherford Cable notes that this honors “an emerging leader under the age of 40 who exemplifies the ATHENA attributes and serves as a role model for young women.” 

Again, LaShan Dixon has been named director of the Rutherford County Health Department.
