Long time area basketball coach Ben Cates passed away on Saturday.

He was the first ever girls coach at Oakland High School after a successful career at the former Kittrell High School.

Cates spent many years as the director of Rutherford County Recreation as well.

Arrangements are incomplete but will soon be announced by Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home.
