FOLLOW UP: 228 Citations Written during "Operation Red Light"

“Operation Red Light” took place earlier this month in the Murfreesboro area and reports indicate 228 citations were written.

The Murfreesboro Police Department released the results of the operation that detailed the citations that were written to motorists.

Breakdown of the 228 Citations:

43 - Failure to Obey a Stop Sign or Traffic Signal
72 - Violating the Hands-Free Law
34 - Seat Belt Violations
19 - No Proof of Insurance
15 - No Proof of Registration
14 - Drivers License Violations
5 - Failure to Change Address on License or Registration
4 - Speeding
4 - Suspended / Revoked License
4 - Illegal Window Tint
4 - Light Violation
2 - Improper Passing
1 - Improper Lane Change
1 – Following Improperly
1 - Failing to Properly have Child Restrained in Vehicle
1 - Slow Poke Law / Violation
1 - Obstructed Windshield
1 - Bumper Height Violation
1 - Side Mirror Violation
1 - Commercial Vehicle Inspection

During Operation Red Light, teams of law enforcement personnel patroled high-crash areas in the City of Murfreesboro. Some of those areas included the Memorial Blvd./Clark Ave. intersection, NW Broad Street/Thompson Lane intersection, S. Church Street/Innsbrooke Blvd. intersection, and the intersection of Old Fort Pkwy./Cason Lane.

Operation Red Light took place on May 14th and Murfreesboro Police Department Sgt. Greg Walker said the goal of the special event was to reduce crashes.

The Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force includes ten different county and state law enforcement agencies. The goal of the task force is, 'Saving Lives Through Proactive Traffic Enforcement'.
