(SMYRNA, TN)  Starting this coming Monday (8/16/2021) the Nissan plant in Smyrna will be shutting down for a two-week period as a result of a shortage of crucial semi-conductors.

Officials at the massive 6 million square foot Rutherford County plant announced that they were short of chips as a result of the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on their chip supplier in Malaysia.

The local facility employs 6,700 persons who manufacture Nissan's top selling U.S. vehicle, the Rogue SUV. It is also where the popular Altima is manufactured.

Reports indicate that the Nissan shutdown in the Volunteer state is one of the longest running for a plant this size in America.

The chip shortage began late last year (2020) and has crippled vehicle manufacturing worldwide.
