Tennessee Valley Healthcare System kicks off Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) Week, Oct. 17 – 23, by sharing the inspirational stories of disabled Veterans who have obtained employment as participants in the facility’s CWT program.

In Murfreesboro, the Alvin C. York Campus of the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System has been helping local veterans since its construction in 1939.

Locally, the Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) program at Tennessee Valley Healthcare System provides Veterans who have mental or physical disabilities with career opportunities.

“When Veterans enter our program, we help them develop vital job skills to secure local employment,” Connie Gallon, CWT manager said. “In the last year, we’ve had 181 Veterans go through our program, and 75 of them have found a job. During Compensated Work Therapy Week, we want the community to know what we do and spread awareness about the services we provide.”

Nationwide, VA employs more than 800 vocational rehabilitation counselors, specialists, managers, and peer support specialists in its CWT program. Because of the staff’s expertise, roughly 52,000 Veterans secure a job with community and government business partners annually.
