(MURFREESBORO)  There was a groundbreaking at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon (12/21/21) for Rutherford County's ONE-STOP Driver Services Center on the corner of Fortress Boulevard and Blaze Drive. The multipurpose complex will be across the street from Blackman Elementary School. Construction is expected to be complete by fall of 2022.

Rutherford County Mayor Bill Ketron served as the emcee. He said, "The property includes 17.6-acres owned by the City of Murfreesboro. Rutherford County will lease approximately 5.54 acres of the property for this project and future development."

This 14,600 square foot structure will be used as a satellite driver’s license renewal and automobile registration facility. The facility will house staff from the State of Tennessee's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and Rutherford County Register’s Office. The facility will have 86 parking spaces for employees and customers.

County Clerk Lisa Duke Crowell said, "The new facility will have a 24/7 drivers license renewal kiosk. It will have a staff inside with license tag sales, passports and marriage licenses--basically the services offered at the downtown Murfreesboro and Smyrna offices. Plus, two drive-through windows."

During the ground breaking, architect Bart Kline told the county mayor that the facility will be completed in 12-months.

The office’s hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:00AM-6:00PM. Traffic projections for peak times will be mostly employees. The proposed facility will be accessed thru the existing private drive on Blaze Drive and an entrance off Fortress Boulevard and will include 86 parking spaces for employees and customers daily. On site lighting will be directed down onto the site.

The property is zoned RS-15, which allows a public building with a special use permit.
