(MURFREESBORO) They're off on the 11th Annual SPECIAL KIDS RACE at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic and SurgiCenter. Temps were around 46 degrees with partly cloudy, dry weather on Saturday (3/19/2022) when the cannon fired and started the run through history.
The popular route is relatively flat, and goes in and around the historic Stones River National Battlefield. The event included 15K, 10K, 5K and a 1-mile fun run and walk.
5K race
Winner of the 5K was 43-year old Kelly Bellar of Hixson. His net time was 17:26. He was not only the overall winner, but tops in the male category as well.
Alyssa Goin was the first female to finish in the 5K with a net time of 18:55. She was age 13, from Hendersonville, and placed third overall in the 5K.
10K race
Winner of the 10K was 43-year old Jason Long of Readyville. His net time was 36:58. He was not only the overall winner, but tops in the male category as well.
Lindsay Cox was the first female to finish in the 10K with a net time of 18:55. She was age 39, from Smyrna, and placed fourth overall in the 10K.
15K race
Winner of the 15K was 43-year old Andrew Chirico of Hendersonville. His net time was 50:03. He was not only the overall winner, but tops in the male category as well.
Rebecca Walter was the first female to finish in the 15K with a net time of 57:51. She was age 37, from Murfreesboro, and placed third overall in the 15K.

Special Kids is a Christian therapy and nursing center for children with special needs. The Murfreesboro, TN-based ministry started with one child in 1998 and has since grown to serve thousands of children across Middle Tennessee.
