Thank You DAR

As Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Col. Hardy Murfree Chapter Regent Lila Beasley said, "DAR does not wait until Memorial Day to honor our veterans. That is our main focus year round. Everything we do focuses on our veterans, past and present, living or dead."

On May 14, 2022 the DAR held a Revolutionary Patriot Grave Marking for Pvt. David Osteen. One segment of this ceremony honored all Veterans for the past 250 years of our country’s heritage. This event was held in conjunction with Sons of the American Revolution.

Purpose

Honoring America's fallen warriors is the sole purpose of this federal holiday.

As of 1970 the commemoration was changed by Congress to be on the last Monday in May. Prior to 1970, it was known as Decoration Day and celebrated on May 30th from 1868 to 1970.
