Listen to Podcast Above: A Bell Buckle resident who played basketball at Cascade High School in the late 1980’s and later went on to play college ball for Clemson University, will be giving away free school supplies for local school students this July. After Wayne “Big Buck” Buckingham graduated from Clemson, he became a professional basketball player - - playing in both the United States and internationally.
Buckingham told WGNS NEWS he loves to mentor youth, which is why he has given away free school supplies for less fortunate children for the past 11-years. The school supplies, geared towards students age 5 through the 9th grade, will be given away at the MTSU football field on the last Saturday of July (July 30, 2022 - 10AM to 1PM).
There is no need for children to pre-register to receive the free school supplies. Buckingham told WGNS all kids have to do is show up. The gates to the football field on the MTSU campus will open at 9:30AM on July 30th and the event will be held from 10AM to 1PM. Again, the event is FREE and area students can meet a variety of professional athletes and receive free school supplies.
GOLF FUNDRAISER - Sunday, July 31, 2022: To help raise money for the school supplies, a fundraising golf tournament will be held at the Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro the last Sunday of July (July 31, 2022 – Opens at 11AM with a shotgun start at 1PM).
