MURFREESBORO, TN – Imagine logging onto your bank account, only to realize that someone stole all of your hard earned dollars. That is exactly what happened to a Murfreesboro woman earlier this month. The local resident fell victim to a theft that drained her bank account and savings account.
A police report shows that over $2,200 was taken out of her checking and savings account's. Furthermore, her $1,000 line of credit had been used, which was connected to her bank account. It appeared that that the subject who took her money, did so by way of fraudulent transactions through Caesar's Sports Play+. The police officer who worked with the victim to file the report wrote, "I did Internet research to see what Caesar's Sports Play+ was - and it appeared to be a form of online payment related to gambling at Caesar's Palace Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada."
While the victim does not know who helped themselves to her account, she did state that she recently made a purchase at a gas pump on South Church Street in Murfreesboro. As a precaution, the police officer went to the gas station to check for possible skimmers at the gas pumps. Criminals have long been known to install external skimmers over the credit card reader on gas pumps. The skimmers scan credit cards as they are swiped for payment, stealing the customers credit card information. Thankfully, no skimmers were found at the gas pumps. The case remains open and is being investigated.
