(MURFREESBORO)  Murfreesboro Fire-Rescue was called to the Birchwood Apartments in the noon hour Friday (3/3/2023). Officials told NewsRadio WGNS that fire, smoke and water damage was suffered in one unit in the "C" building, while another had some heat, smoke and water damage.

Details are sketchy at this time, but WGNS understands that a woman was injured and taken to Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. Initial reports indicate that she had a previous leg injury and another female worked to get her out of the apartment. A Murfreesboro police officer carried the injured woman to paramedics for evaluation.

Volunteers from the American Red Cross were helping the three individuals who were displaced by the damage. 

The cause of the blaze is under investigation by Fire Marshal Carl Peas.
