(MURFREESBORO) Here’s a loving story, that needs you to create a happy ending.
Do you think it’s possible for a dog to fall in love with a neighborhood and adopt its residents?
One 'Boro pooch has been named “Mayor”. Well, even more—“The Mayor of Riverview”!
Those living in the Riverview area of Murfreesboro started seeing "Mayor" in all parts of the large Riverview area.
If you're new to the area and can't see where that is---picture in your mind Riverview Drive—the road that backs-up to the Stones River Country Club's golf course. That’s one side. Then use Thompson Lane for another border, take it to Sulphur Springs Road, and take that across Haynes Drive and on over.
“THE MAYOR” UNITED ALL
"Mayor" sightings were a regular thrill throughout last summer, fall and early winter. This canine would see family’s walking their dog, and join-in for a trot with friends. However, if you got too close, "Mayor" would trot off in a different direction.
Murfreesboro’s Riverview neighbors came to embrace the stray that roamed the entire (very large) area for nearly a solid year.
Within a few months, a Facebook page told about "Mayor".
People saw him everywhere and posts started dominating that page.
It was immediately clear that "The Mayor" did not trust humans.
For him to be so afraid of humans, someone at some time must have really hurt this poor boy.
"The Mayor" never ran away at full speed, but rather just changed courses when folks tried to capture him.
SOCIAL MEDIA COULD NOT, BUT “MAYOR” DID
“The Mayor” brought neighbors together who did not know each other. That’s something social media has not accomplished.
There are some really amusing videos of folks trying to approach him and calling out to him, as if he was an elected official trying to duck his voters. His presence in the Riverview neighborhood became the primary topic of conversation.
The most interesting thing about “The Mayor” was that even though he would shy away from all humans, if a family was out walking their dog, he would come right over to them and trot alongside of them as if he was part of their family.
Right in the dead of winter, it was noticed that "The Mayor" was walking with a severe limp.
The attempts to capture him kicked into high gear, but still no one could until February 15, 2023. A neighbor finally got a leash on him.
They immediately started posting updates about Mayor including his trip to the vet, the intestinal parasites he had and, yes, a broken foot, hence the severe limp. He was given excellent medical care, paid for by the folks who were able to catch him, and donations from others in the neighborhood.
Today “The Mayor” is healthy, his foot has healed perfectly, and he has warmed up to humans nicely.
FOREVER HOME NEEDED
Then Nathan Wallach shared the great news . . .
I am praying that a WGNS’ Good Neighbor will consider adopting “The Mayor” who brought an entire neighborhood together, but still needs a home of his own.
