MURFREESBORO, TN – The annual Child Advocacy Center Hometown Heroes Walk for Children will take place this Friday, April 28th in Murfreesboro, as Child Abuse Prevention Month comes to a close.
For the last 23 years, the Child Advocacy Center has worked as a team with the Department of Children’s Services, law enforcement, and the District Attorney’s Office to investigate and prosecute child abuse cases and to help children and families heal from the trauma. Last year, 1,968 children and families were helped.
When a child sex abuse case is investigated, a team of trained professionals come together to oversee everything from the investigation to the prosecution. Walk committee member Ella Britt said that in addition to the Child Advocacy Center and the District Attorney's Office, some of the other organizations that are often a part of a case include... Britt is the Vice President of Community Outreach for Volunteer Behavioral Health.
This year marks the 8th year for the annual walk. Katie Enzor with the Child Advocacy Center said this years walk will take a new direction... Walkers will start on the Murfreesboro Civic Plaza at the intersection of South Church and Vine Streets (111 West Vine Street, Murfreesboro, 37130) and head towards Oaklands Park on Roberts Street. Registration for the walk on Friday begins at 10:45 and the walk will begin at 12-noon on Friday.
More Details on the Friday Walk: Registration will start at 10:45 a.m., speakers at 11:30 a.m., and the walk will begin at 12:00 noon. Complimentary shuttles will run from Oakland's Park Pavilion Parking lot to the event kick-off at the Civic Plaza from 10:30-11:30 a.m. This FREE event will conclude with a boxed picnic lunch at the Oaklands Park Pavilion.
