Metro Nashville Police say an unidentified man was killed after an accident occurred on I-40 this past Sunday.
According to investigators, a Smyrna man was driving down the interstate when he slammed into a mid-sized SUV that was stopped on the right shoulder of I-40 at exit 211-B during the early morning hours of Sunday (12:25 AM). 43-Year-old Nicholas Marks of Smyrna was driving a 2023 Nissan Altima that for unknown reasons, ran off the road and struck the Oldsmobile Bravada that was stopped on the side of the interstate. Police reported the Nissan left the roadway, striking the SUV that then caught fire – killing the driver of the vehicle. After the accident, Marks was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center with critical injuries.
The medical examiner is currently working to identify the body of the man who was behind the wheel of the SUV, as Marks continues to receive treatment at Vanderbilt. As for the cause of the collision, the investigation is ongoing.
