(MURFREESBORO) It's the Memorial Day Weekend and the 14th "Healing Field, Flags of Remembrance" at First United Methodist Church, 265 W. Thompson Ln., is 0pen from 8:00AM each morning until 5:00PM in the afternoon Saturday, Sunday and Monday. More information can be found at www.HealingField.org.
Creating an awe-inspiring panorama, 500 three-foot by five-foot American flags are flying on eight-foot staffs with gold toppings, aligned in a military grid to create an unforgettable patriotic experience. This event helps remind the community of the real reason for Memorial Day.
Walk among the Flags, teach your children about Memorial Day, remember your family heroes by honoring them with sponsoring a Flag in the Healing Field over this Memorial Day Weekend.
We must never forget our heroes.
Exchange Club representative Don Wright stated, "These flags are proudly made in America!"
Sponsor A Flag
Flags can be sponsored in honor or memory of personal heroes for $35 each. The sponsored Flag will be tagged as desired. Bring a photo and include that on the staff.
Visitors are able to purchase a flag at the event. After the closing at 5:00 o'clock on Memorial Day afternoon, sponsors can retrieve their flag(s) to take home, fly in their hero’s honor, or present the flag(s) to the Honoree and family.
Volunteers Needed
Volunteers from the community are invited to assist the posting of the Flags on Saturday Morning at 8:00 AM. Church groups, service organizations, businesses are invited to help for about an hour.
Volunteers are needed at Closing on May 29 to retrieve Flags. Volunteers can contact 615-641-0121 or ExchangeRutherford@GMail.com for duties.
Retire Old Glory
The local Boy Scouts will have a Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Healing Field® on Saturday night at 6:00 PM. The community is invited to bring old, tattered, worn-out flags earlier that day by 4:00 PM to be properly retired.
The 14th Healing Field®, a local tradition, is presented by The Exchange Club of Rutherford County (www.NationalExchangeClub.org) and TriStar Veterans Resource Center (http://TSVRC.org), both non-profit organizations. This community Americanism project is made possible through corporate sponsorships, Flag sponsorships, and donations.
Again, it is open 8AM-5PM on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
