Memorial Day Weekend: 2 Separate Drownings in Percy Priest Lake

(PERCY PRIEST LAKE) A second swimmer drowned in the same general area of Percy Priest Lake within a 48-hour time frame. The second body was recovered in Party Cove around 12:20PM on Sunday afternoon (5/28/2023).

First Drowning

The first male was a 17-year-old who vanished while swimming near the Anderson Road Recreation Area on Thursday (5/25/2023). His body was located by divers at 7:00PM Friday night (5/26/2023).

Second Drowning

The second drowning was in the Party Cove, approximately 6,000 feet from the Anderson Road beach. That cove is next to the Long Hunter State Park. That swimmer went under water around 3:15PM Saturday afternoon (5/27/2023) and also did not resurface.

With both tragedies, the Office of Emergency Management and the Tennessee Wildlife and River Association (TWRA) reports that emergency responders were on-the-scene almost immediately after the swimmers were reported missing. In both cases, divers, boats, helicopters, sonar, and drones were used to locate the missing swimmers.
