MPD Reports that fewer windows are broken as thieves are in search of unlocked cars.

MURFREESBORO, TN - Vehicle break-ins continue to be a problem throughout Rutherford County and sometimes, local residents are leaving their key fob too close to their car at night… That was Murfreesboro Police Sgt. Amy Denton who told WGNS thieves are looking for easy access to things that are left in unlocked vehicles, as seen on a variety of home security cameras... The simple act of locking your car doors and making sure the windows are rolled up, typically equals thieves passing your vehicle to quickly move-on to find an unlocked vehicle.

Between January 1st and the end of May, there were 344 vehicle break-ins within the city limits of Murfreesboro. If the numbers seen over the first 5-months of 2023 hold steady, end of the year statistics for vehicle break-ins may rise higher than figures recorded last year. In 2022, there were 663 vehicle break-ins reported in Murfreesboro. In 2021, there were 666 vehicle break-ins, according to the MPD.
