MURFREESBORO, TN – Police officers responded to a call at Chelsea Place Apartments in Murfreesboro that was in regards to an explosive device. Once on the scene, police spoke to a man who told officers he was looking through his grandfather’s belongings when he located what looked to be a hand grenade.
As more officers arrived on the scene, an area around the apartment complex that the grenade was found in was taped off with yellow police tape. The MPD determined the device in question appeared to be a hand grenade. Authorities carefully examined what looked to be the military grade device and confirmed it was only a replica and not a real hand grenade.
WGNS originally learned about the incident through a resident who grew concerned over the growing police presence around 6:30 in the evening. Public Information Officer Larry Flowers with the MPD then confirmed that the device was only a replica hand grenade. Again the device was not a real hand grenade and only a replica.
